About Rocket Spanish’s Amy & Mauricio

It takes a lot of discipline and time to learn a language from scratch and many people lack the motivation when trying to learn it on their own.  A classroom environment, with a teacher involved, keeps students attentive by asking questions in the language and being the leader with repetitive drills of vocabulary, verb conjugation, and sentence structure.  Without the guidance of a teacher many students would be lost and in many cases a textbook can prove to be inefficient without proper instruction by someone else who already knows the language.

But courses with instructors are costly and time consuming.  For those people who are looking to learn a language for a vacation or business trip, or to add to their resume, a course at a community college or private tutor may not be an option.  There are many instructional books that make learning a language sound simple, but Rocket Spanish and the other Rocket Language programs have something that books are missing

Interactive narrators are the key to success and we are introduced to them in the Sample Course as well as the Premium Course of Rocket Spanish.  Amy and Mauricio are the two people helping the consumer on their journey from English to Spanish, and although they are not really standing before the student, they lead the audio courses as if the listener was presently in a classroom environment.

Who Are They?

A little background information about both Amy and Mauricio can be found in the emails when signing up for the Sample Course of Rocket Spanish.  Amy Waterman lived in Ecuador and became fluent in Spanish while residing there.  She has been studying ways to learn the language and helped create the interactive audio portion of Rocket Spanish.  Mauricio Evlampieff is the author of Rocket Spanish.  He is from Chile and a native Spanish speaker.  The two together form a dynamic duo, and by the end of the course, they will have guided the consumer to fluent Spanish conversation speaking.

How Do They Do It?

When listening to the interactive audio portion of the course, the consumer is basically attending a private tutoring session where the ratio is two teachers to one student.  Although Mauricio and Amy cannot answer questions, they will guide the listener through the course.  Amy talks about the session and explains how the course is set up and what will be happening in that lesson.  Next they act out the conversation that is written to show how all of the words are pronounced.  After, Amy explains in detail every word and it’s meaning while Mauricio states the word or phrase aloud with a pause for the listener to repeat it.  Amy will ask questions, for example “How would you say nice to meet you?” and then the listener has time to answer aloud before the answer is stated.

Without an actual teacher sitting by, it can be challenging to stay focused and fully understand concepts.  Pronunciation is critical when learning Spanish because no matter how much is memorized and learned, if the words are not spoken correctly, people will still not comprehend what is being said.

For better help with Spanish pronunciation, this website gives a quick key to pronunciation of every letter in the Spanish alphabet.  It has audio examples of how they sound and also shows English words with the same sounds.  It can be extremely helpful when practicing Spanish independently, when reading the language, and writing it as well!
